The Initiative for
Responsible Mining Assurance

The IRMA process is governed by a representative group of its participating members. The following individuals currently serve on the IRMA steering committee:

• Mining: Dave Baker, Newmont (lead) and Bill Adams, Rio Tinto (alternate)
• Jewelry Retail: Matthew Runci, Jewelers of America (lead) and Anisa Costa, Tiffany & Co. (alternate)
• Labor: Joe Drexler, ICEM (lead) and Glen Mpufane, National Union of Mineworkers, S.Africa (alternate)
• NGO: Payal Sampat, EARTHWORKS (lead) and Sonya Maldar, CAFOD (alternate)
• Community: Miguel Palacin, CONACAMI (lead) and Julie Cavanaugh-Bill, Western Shoshone Defense Project (alternate)

IRMA is working to create a system that ensures that mining is consistent with healthy communities and environments, and that mine sites leave positive long-term legacies.
